Oh yeah, one other thing: I just went out on a run with them for the first time a couple hours ago. Went out for about 30 minutes around UVM's campus. For starters, I can tell you that my calves are going to feel it tomorrow big-time - they are *not* used to being used like that (and I run regularly with regular running shoes). The VFFs really make you run in a different way than you would with typical heavily-cushioned running shoes, but it feels far more natural. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the next couple weeks as I keep doing this.

Also, to tie it back to your question, not once did I injure or even come close to injuring my toes. I think it's really just about being aware of yourself - if you're aware of your immediate environment, and where your body is in relation to it, I think you'll be pretty well off. And if you don't have it to start with, you'll gain it pretty quickly.

The human body is pretty cool, it'll adapt to whatever task you put it to.

hey Django -

good question. I haven't run into any situations where my toes got caught, twisted, stepped on, etc. Of course it *could* happen, though, but I think if you're just wearing them casually, the likelihood of experiencing anything serious is minimal. About the worst I'd expect to happen with casual wear would be getting stepped on, but first, there's protection that covers up over the toe nails, so you could get stepped on some and still be alright.

It's true that there's less protection with VFFs than with normal shoes, but there's also decidedly *more* protection than with any kind of sandal. There are some concessions to be made in the realm of protection, but all it really means is that you become more aware of your body and where you're stepping. Increased proprioception is a documented benefit of regularly wearing and training with VFFs.

I'll check into the server time issue, thanks for bringing that to my attention!

I pick on the croc wearer incessantly. There is nothing that more quickly makes a woman look unattractive, nor a man look like more of a douche than by wearing a pair of crocs.

You at least get benefits from these FiveFinger shoes.

Question though: One of the reasons shoes cover all the toes like they do is for protection from the toes getting caught, twisted, stepped on, etc. Have you run into any situations yet with these that wouldn't have happened if the toes had been protected?

Hey Scott -

Yeah? That's sweet! Who was the guest when you went to see his show? I've got tix for Monday, September 15th, so I'll be going down with my brother to see the show then. Supposedly, Samuel Jackson will be the guest, which would rock, but I could be getting the show he'll be on confused with the one we'll be going to. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to it!

Re: joining the DDC team, thanks! I really can't wait! I'm supposed to start on the 22nd, but I kinda wish I were starting sooner... guess I should probably enjoy my free time while I've got it, eh? Anyhow, everyone I speak with about Dealer has only very positive things to say, so I feel confident I've made the right choice here. Look forward to working with you, if I'll have the opportunity!

Have a good one -
